Search Engine Optimization Arrogance

I recently came across a couple of IT guys when I was giving an online marketing pitch. Even before we met, I was already dreading the thought of talking to the IT department because my experiences have led me to believe that they rarely understand the fundamentals of marketing (even though they think they do) and furthermore aren't receptive to marketing services that could effect their job description.

As always, I cleared my thoughts and made way for a positive engaging meeting. Within five minutes, the room tension was increasingly getting thicker with technology expert arrogance. The "I'm smarter than you are" was blatantly clear following with direct insults one right after the other. I began to wonder why I was even invited given the fact that it wasn't about "what can you do for me", but more "what can you tell me about what we are doing already so that I can teach you a lesson?"

I never have claimed that I know more than anyone in my respective industry. I believe that working for what you love to do inspires other people to share their experiences, further building my knowledge and love for the industry as a whole. However, when I meet people like the above, it really makes you wonder how some go through life and sleep at night.

Needless to say, we wont be working for them in the near future. (The long-term doesn't look to bright either.) But for curiosity sake, I decided to take a peek at some of their search engine optimization work. In short, it wont be long until they wonder where their SERPS went:)
