[...] Pinterest is a great way to build, or add to, a public relations campaign. In fact, several companies are already using Pinterest’s innovative visual platform almost exclusively for PR purposes. There’s no reason why you shouldn’t, too. But what has Pinterest to offer that makes it so great for PR? Let’s look and see. [...]

Great post. Think everyone realises that Google's priority is always going to be increasing their own revenue. They're clearly concentrating on consolidating their market share of the search engine market but leveraging their own tools and consumers of gmail/search engine to do so. Advertising makes up so much of their income that shareholders are always going to be looking at the easiest ways in which to increase the quarterly figures. I suspect that they started off Google Plus as a direct competitor to FB but soon realised that they're better off using it in different ways.

I wrote a blog post briefly analysing Facebook's IPO, Instagram and how Google did it when they went public.
Here it is http://bit.ly/Jv9tdj

Comments are also welcome! Again, good post.

There is a huge competition in the modern web economy between the platfroms.
Facebook, Google, Amazon, Apple all tech giants know that the greatest treasure is getting accurate user data to sell better services to the brands and earn big dollars.
You definitely got a point Christian, and I hope Google won't forget its philosophy of "do no evil".

Google + was meant to make paid ads more effective by gathering as much personal information about consumers. It's also likely that it designed to compete with Facebook in the sense that the company wanted to maintain its stronghold on the Internet, although as far as social media platforms go, Google + hasn't succeeded in this venture.

You have a very detailed blog post in there about Social Media. Many marketers just like me have already used Social media in our campaigns and I do agree that the results depends upon your creative way of reaching out to people in a more natural way. The secret is dealing with them in a friendly manner, and not like treating them as clients.
